Weld purge dams and purge systems help confine inert gas around the internal weld zone of a pipe or tube. Choosing the right arrangement depends on actual bore, access, joint geometry, temperature and the residual oxygen limit in the welding procedure.
A purge dam is a barrier that limits the volume being purged. A complete system may use two inflatable dams, often called purge bladders, connected around the weld zone, or a single-ended arrangement for a particular setup. These terms overlap: a dam is not inherently more heat resistant than an inflatable system, and a product name alone does not establish its temperature rating.
Send Justram the actual internal diameter, pipe material, joint layout, access and retrieval path, preheat/interpass temperatures and oxygen target. Include any bend or obstruction that affects placement and the time the equipment will remain exposed to heat.
Use a suitable weld purge monitor to check the required oxygen level. Purge time and gas use depend on the volume, sealing, flow and setup; no single system is universally the fastest or uses the least gas.
Weld purging equipment should not be selected as a pressure-test closure or isolation device unless the specific product is rated and approved for that use. For pressure-testing requirements, review the test plug range and specify the test conditions.
