Chemical resistant multi-size inflatable pipe plugs provide a flexible option for suitable pipe stopping and testing applications where access is restricted. The listed MD and MD-HP models cover maximum pipe diameters from 2 to 96 inches, with different dimensions and pressure ratings for each model.

Choose the bladder and cover for the medium

The standard construction described for this range uses a nitrile bladder with ballistic nylon reinforcement. Ask about butyl, EPDM or Viton bladder options and a Kevlar protective outer layer where appropriate. A protective cover and a chemically compatible bladder perform different functions.

Provide the chemical name, concentration, operating temperature and exposure duration. Resistance to an oil or fuel does not establish compatibility with every petroleum product, acid or alkali. Justram can review the complete bladder, cover and connections for the intended service.

MD and MD-HP model specifications

Use the exact part number when comparing maximum pipe diameter, deflated access size, inflation pressure and maximum back pressure. MD-HP models have their own ratings and may require larger access openings than the corresponding MD model.

For example, MD-072 lists a 10-inch deflated diameter, 4 psi maximum inflation pressure and 2 psi maximum back pressure. MD-072-HP lists a 15-inch deflated diameter, 7 psi maximum inflation pressure and 3.5 psi maximum back pressure. Confirm the required insertion clearance and installation arrangement before ordering.

The deflated diameter is an access dimension; it does not establish the smallest pipe the plug can seal. Confirm the permitted operating range and sealing requirements for the actual pipe bore. Inflation pressure inside the plug and pipeline back pressure are separate limits.

Bypass and inflation options

Ask about versions with or without a bypass, and specify the required bypass connection and flow duty. The table lists inflation connections; these should not be treated as bypass sizes. Air or water inflation arrangements should be confirmed for the supplied model and application.

Application and handling requirements

Suitable applications can include sewer and storm-drain maintenance, pipeline testing and temporary flow blocking. Chemical containment, hazardous media and pressurized service require a review of the selected plug, expected back pressure, restraint and operating procedure.
