Economy Low Pressure Test Plugs

EST economy low pressure test plugs use an expanding neoprene seal for pipe and tube testing.

  • Nominal plug sizes: 3/8–4 in.; use the chart’s actual ID limits.
  • Up to 35 psig (2.4 barg), with lower limits for larger sizes.
  • Select by measured bore, medium, temperature and required pressure.

EST economy test plugs provide a removable closure for low pressure hydrostatic testing of pipe and tube. The neoprene seal expands against the bore when the plug is tightened. Plated carbon steel components support the seal assembly.

Size and pressure selection

Use the measured inside diameter to identify the plug. The chart identifies nominal plug sizes from 3/8–4 in. alongside each part’s actual minimum and maximum bore. These are individual fit ranges, not continuous coverage of every bore or a universal fit based on nominal pipe size. The maximum pressure varies by plug size; the family maximum of 35 psig (2.4 barg) does not apply to every row.

The manufacturer established these pressure limits in clean, dry commercial-grade carbon steel pipe. Other materials, bore conditions and test media require application review. Confirm the selected part and the limits of the complete test assembly before use.

Construction and maintenance

Smaller plugs use a wing nut; the listed 2–4 in. sizes use a hex nut. The 3/8 in. plug does not use a compression tube. Inspect the seal and hardware before testing and identify replacement seals by the plug size and part number. Follow the applicable installation and operating instructions.
