Elbow Test Plugs — EST GripTight

EST GripTight elbow test plugs for hydrostatic testing at long-radius elbow ends. Manufacturer range: 2–48 inch NPS, with ratings up to 3,350 psig for applicable configurations. Confirm elbow geometry, bore and test conditions.

EST GripTight elbow test plugs provide a reusable test closure for pipe spools and piping systems terminating in long-radius elbows. The self-aligning seal and gripper design avoids the need to orient the plug around the elbow during installation.

Elbow plug range

  • Manufacturer size range: 2–48 inch NPS (DN50–DN1200).
  • Published test pressure: up to 3,350 psig (231 barg), subject to the selected size and configuration.
  • Standard seal: urethane; other materials can be reviewed for the service.
  • Larger sizes and higher-pressure requirements need specific engineering review.

The design fits most long-radius elbows. It is not a universal fit for every elbow, schedule or surface condition. Identify the nominal size, wall thickness, actual bore, elbow radius and angle, and available installation depth.

Material and test requirements

Provide the pipe alloy, hardness, surface finish, coating or cladding, test medium, temperature and required pressure. Confirm compatibility against the exact plug specifications before selection. A family pressure rating does not override the limits of the pipe or other test-system components.

Installation and documentation

Dual-serrated grippers use test pressure to supplement holding force. Follow the applicable manufacturer procedure for inspection, installation torque, restraints, venting and depressurization. Identification markings on the supplied plug provide the part number and relevant reference information.
