Pipe Weld Isolation Plugs — EST GripTight
EST GripTight isolation plugs combine a double block and bleed arrangement with mechanical grippers for pipe weld isolation and localized hydrostatic testing.
- Published range: 3/4–48 in. NPS (DN20–DN1200).
- Up to 2,250 psig between the seals; up to 1,500 psig upstream, subject to the exact assembly.
- Separate fill, vent and upstream-monitoring functions.
EST GripTight pipe weld isolation plugs provide a local isolation and test zone for pipe connection work. The assembly combines two seals with GripTight grippers. Separate connections support filling and venting the cavity between the seals and monitoring conditions upstream.
Two pressure limits with different purposes
- Between-seal test zone: published maximum up to 2,250 psig (155 barg).
- Upstream side: published maximum up to 1,500 psig (103 barg).
Do not apply the between-seal test rating to the upstream side. Confirm both limits for the selected plug, bore, pipe material, temperature and operating procedure. The permissible conditions also depend on the piping and connected test equipment.
Select the correct isolation assembly
The current manufacturer range covers 3/4–48 in. NPS (DN20–DN1200), with size- and schedule-specific configurations. Provide the measured bore, pipe schedule, material and access dimensions so Justram can identify the appropriate assembly. Urethane is the standard seal material; alternative seal requirements need compatibility review.
The cavity between the seals can be filled and vented to form the specified isolation barrier. Following the applicable procedure, the plug can be repositioned for localized weld testing. Monitoring, seal inspection and the site’s isolation and hot-work controls remain essential parts of the work plan.
GripTight versus conventional double block and bleed
GripTight adds mechanical grippers and has a different published upstream-pressure capability from the conventional EST double block and bleed plug. These are distinct assemblies: select by the actual upstream conditions as well as the required local test pressure. Justram can review the application within its isolation plug range.
