GripTight MAX High Pressure Test Plug

EST GripTight MAX ID-sealing hydrostatic test plugs. The manufacturer lists configurations up to 15,000 psig and 3/8–48 inch NPS; exact bore, pipe material and test conditions determine selection. Higher-pressure requirements need specific review.

GripTight MAX high-pressure test plugs provide a reusable closure for hydrostatic testing of open-ended pipe without welding on and cutting off a temporary cap. The dual-serrated grippers engage the inside pipe surface, with test pressure supplementing the holding force.

Select the correct test plug

  • Manufacturer standard range: 3/8–48 inch NPS (DN10–DN1200), with custom sizes reviewed on request.
  • Published maximum test pressure: up to 15,000 psig (1,034 barg) for applicable configurations. Higher pressures require a specifically approved selection.
  • Standard seal material: urethane; alternative materials can be reviewed for temperature and fluid compatibility.
  • Hardened shaft, cone and grippers, with identification markings for the selected unit.

The range describes the product family. It does not mean one plug fits all schedules or that every size is rated to the headline pressure. Match the functional bore range, installation depth and pressure limit to the exact part number.

Pipe material and application review

The manufacturer identifies applications in high-alloy piping and materials up to HRC32. FRP, GRE and other non-metallic or coated pipe applications require specific review; general gripping capability does not establish suitability for every pipe construction.

Provide pipe OD, wall thickness or schedule, measured ID, alloy and hardness, required test pressure, temperature, test medium and end-access details. Include any coating and project code requirements.

Technical specifications and operating documents

Installation planning

Use the operating procedure for the selected size range, including inspection, torque, restraints, venting and depressurization requirements. The permitted test pressure is limited by the weakest applicable component in the complete system.
