Spherical and Cylindrical Inflatable Pipe Stoppers

Spherical and cylindrical inflatable pipe stoppers collapse for insertion through a suitable access opening, then expand inside the pipe or duct. HFT Pipestoppers offers the standard range in nominal 1–96 inch diameters for applications including debris exclusion, temporary closure and suitable low-pressure testing or weld purging.

Choose the stopper shape

• Cylindrical stoppers: their length exceeds their diameter, helping resist turning over inside the pipe. Check that sufficient straight pipe length is available.
• Spherical stoppers: suit installations where the stopper’s orientation is less important. Confirm that the access route, bore and surrounding geometry accommodate the selected model.
• Restricted straight length: compare the separate low profile inflatable stoppers for shallow openings near elbows or flanged necks.

Standard materials and inflation connection

The standard construction uses a latex inner bladder and a polyurethane-coated nylon outer cover. An inflation hose with a Schrader valve is supplied. Confirm the hose length and any through-tube or custom connection when specifying a model.

Specify inflation pressure and back pressure separately

The pressure used to inflate the bladder is different from the pressure it must hold back in the pipe. Obtain both model-specific limits and the required restraint arrangement before use. The cylindrical shape does not remove the need to assess the risk of the stopper moving or being expelled.

For a quote, provide the measured bore, access opening, usable straight length, pipe surface condition, medium, operating pressure, temperature and exposure time. Follow the supplied installation and restraint instructions.

Chemical exposure and heated applications

Standard fabric-covered stoppers should not be assumed suitable for every chemical. Compare the separately specified PetroChem chemical resistant stoppers for relevant service conditions.

Optional heat-resistant covers are listed by HFT for protection up to 300°C (572°F). This is a cover specification, not a blanket operating temperature for an unprotected standard bladder. Confirm the complete configuration and exposure conditions before ordering.
