HFT Pipestoppers low pressure nylon pipe plugs close pipe ends, drains and other round openings for suitable leak-testing, maintenance and weld-purging applications. The range covers nominal sizes from 1/2 to 6 inches. Select by the actual operating bore range in the tables below, then confirm the medium, temperature and required back pressure.

Body, seals and service limits

A wing nut compresses the rubber ring against the bore. Nylon bodies are light and can be dismantled for cleaning; inspect the body, stem and seal before reuse. Standard seals are natural rubber, with silicone, nitrile, neoprene and Viton alternatives available for specified applications.

The manufacturer lists standard nylon plug use at 75°C (167°F) continuously and 105°C (221°F) intermittently. Confirm any higher-temperature configuration for the complete assembly. The 250°C silicone and 220°C Viton figures in seal-material references do not establish those working temperatures for a nylon plug.

For chemical service, specify the fluid, concentration, exposure time and temperature. Compatibility of the seal alone is insufficient; the body and other components must also suit the service. Obtain the allowable back pressure and required restraint for the selected model before pressure testing. These dimensional tables are not pressure ratings.

Select the stem and connection

Solid-stem plugs close an opening without a gas passage. Hollow-shaft models accommodate an appropriate cap or hose connection. Confirm the thread on small-bore hollow-shaft plugs before selecting an adaptor; nominal plug diameter alone does not identify the fitting. The 1.5-inch size appears in different stem configurations.
