HDPE Pipe Test Plugs — EST GripTight PE

EST GripTight PE plugs are designed for pressure testing polyethylene pipe without fusing a temporary end cap onto each test section. They can be selected for installed pipe or pipe remaining on a spool, subject to the manufacturer’s installation requirements and the project test procedure.

Select by IPS size, SDR and polyethylene grade

The published range includes 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 in. IPS pipe, with configurations for SDR 9 through 17 in HDPE or MDPE. A nominal pipe size alone does not identify the correct plug. Confirm the actual bore and SDR, and provide the PE material designation from the pipe marking.

The manufacturer’s catalogue lists a maximum of up to 375 psig (approximately 25.8 barg) for qualifying configurations. This is not the rating of every GripTight PE plug: the technical chart assigns different limits by SDR and PE grade. Use the rating for the exact part and application, within the limits of the pipe and the complete test assembly.

Connections and application review

The ported shaft provides a connection for filling or venting. Identify any required valves, gauges, fittings or secondary restraint when requesting a quotation. Installation depth, engagement, inspection and operating procedure must match the supplied assembly. Replacement seals and gripper components should be identified by plug part number.
