Pipe Wrap Around Marking Tool
A pipe wrap around marking tool provides a flexible straightedge for pipe layout. Choose a printed standard wrap or unmarked material supplied in custom lengths. Select the length from the actual outside diameter and the overlap needed for alignment.
Printed pipe wraps for layout
Standard Fit-Up Pro by Mathey Dearman wraps have double-ruled edges, 1/8 in markings to 36 in, tangent references, a 45° chart and elbow-layout instructions. Their abrasion- and solvent-resistant material provides a reusable marking edge.
Standard wrap sizes
| Model | Width | Length | Published pipe range |
|---|---|---|---|
| D160 | 4 in | 4 ft | 3–15 in |
| D170 | 4 in | 6 ft | 3–22 in |
| D177 | 4 in | 7 ft | 3–26 in |
Custom-length, unmarked wrap
D184, D185 and D187 are supplied by length in 1 ft increments. These custom-length wraps do not have the printed markings or instructions supplied on standard wraps.
| Model | Width | Length selection |
|---|---|---|
| D184 | 4 in | Specify required length |
| D185 | 5 in | Specify required length |
| D187 | 7 in | Specify required length |
How much wrap is needed?
Pipe circumference ≈ actual outside diameter × 3.1416. Use the same units throughout, then allow additional length for the overlap needed to align and hold the wrap. Confirm this against the selected wrap and the pipe surface; nominal pipe size may differ from actual outside diameter.
For example, a 12 in outside diameter has a circumference of approximately 37.7 in before overlap. This calculation estimates length only; it does not verify a finished cut or replace layout checks.
Marking and cutting preparation
Clean the reference area, seat the wrap evenly and align its overlapping edges before marking. Check the line closes consistently around the pipe. For machine-guide positioning, confirm the cutting machine’s setup instructions and track requirements.
See the MagnaCut XM pipe cutting machine and our pipe alignment tools. Include pipe outside diameter, preferred width and whether printed references are required when requesting a quote.
