Thaxton High Pressure Test Plugs

Thaxton high pressure hydrostatic test plugs use steel grips and a compressed seal to close compatible pipe or tube bores.

  • Type C and Type D configurations for specific measured inside diameters.
  • Standard plugs are factory tested up to 3,000 psi, depending on size.
  • Confirm the permissible application pressure for the exact supplied plug.

Thaxton hydrostatic test plugs are designed for smooth, concentric pipe and tube bores. Tightening the assembly engages steel grips against the inside wall while compressing the seal. Ported mandrels provide a passage for filling and venting.

Measured bore determines the plug

These are close-fitting, size-specific plugs. The ranges below describe groups of available sizes, not continuous adjustment of one plug. Provide actual inside diameter, wall thickness and bore condition; nominal pipe size alone is insufficient.

Thaxton Type C plugs

Listed ID sizes 0.466–1.000 in., with a ±0.005 in. fit tolerance.

Thaxton Type C High Pressure Plugs

Thaxton Type D small plugs

Listed ID sizes 0.957–2.469 in., with a ±0.020 in. fit tolerance.

Thaxton Type D Small

Thaxton Type D medium plugs

Listed ID sizes 2.900–11.938 in., with a ±0.035 in. fit tolerance.

Thaxton Type D large plugs

Listed ID sizes 18–25 in. The large-plug arrangement uses multiple draw bolts; confirm the exact bore, configuration and installation requirements.

Factory test pressure and application review

The manufacturer describes standard plugs as factory tested up to 3,000 psi, depending on size. Confirm the rating, test medium, temperature, pipe material and required restraint for the actual assembly before use. Factory testing does not establish the allowable pressure of the entire customer piping system.

Special sizes and higher-pressure requirements need a specifically reviewed configuration. Use the model’s operating instructions and the approved test procedure. Inspect grips, seals and hardware before testing; identify replacement seal kits by the plug part number.
