Water Soluble Weld Purge Film

Argweld water soluble weld purge film provides a temporary gas barrier inside pipework for TIG welding. The APF0001 kit is useful where positioning or retrieving mechanical purge dams is impractical and the completed pipework can be washed out.

APF0001 kit contents

• One 20 m × 1 m roll of water-soluble weld purge film (20 square metres)
• Two bottles of Super Weld Purge Adhesive
• Cutting knife
• User instruction manual

The transparent film is cut to suit the pipe and secured with the supplied water-soluble adhesive. It allows a view of the weld root where the joint and access arrangement permit.

Application and washout planning

The manufacturer lists use with stainless steel, duplex, chromium-molybdenum steels and titanium alloys. Confirm compatibility with the welding procedure and the plant’s cleaning and acceptance requirements. Film and adhesive are intended to dissolve during a suitable water washout; plan access, drainage and verification of removal before installation.

Heat exposure and purge monitoring

HFT states that the film can be used up to 300°C without burning or losing the weld-purge barrier. Follow the supplied instructions for placement, heat exposure and the intended washout process, and confirm the welding procedure requirements for the installation.

Use a weld purge monitor to check the atmosphere against the welding procedure’s oxygen limit. Film alone does not certify weld quality or a particular oxygen level.
