Weld Purge Plugs
Weld Purge Plugs and Purge Plug Kits. Simple to use, in-expensive, versatile and available in stock.
Description
When other purge systems or purge film cannot be used to make a suitable barrier for purging pipes, tubes or fittings, the Argweld® Weld Purge Plugs™ offer a satisfactory option. Typical purging applications include: • Use for small or odd diameter pipes where inflatable purging systems, paper dams or water soluble film may not be available or practical • Short, complicated, variable size assemblies where purging systems or dams would be too long or do not match the diameters being worked on The expanding rubber seal allows the plugs to be used for weld purging oval and out of round tubes as well as in ‘elbows’, ‘tees’ and other fittings. These plugs are also ideal for creating an air-tight seal for leak testing operations. For welding of alloys and stainless steel tubes and pipes, Argweld® Purge Plugs™are available as single units or as kits for typical applications, such as Orbital Welding. When you have to fill complicated pipework systems with inert gas, the Argweld®Purge Plugs™ are a perfect low vapour pressure speciality product to seal all holes and orifices for quality internal purging. The Argweld® Purging Plugs™ are made from engineering quality nylon up to 150 mm (6″) diameter and will not seize up, rust or corrode. A friction reducing acetal copolymer thrust washer inserted between the top plate and wing nut provides easy expansion and release. Standard seals are made from natural rubber. Argweld® Purge Plugs™ will not rust or corrode, will not seize up or lock, are virtually shatter-proof and are easily dismantled and cleaned. Larger size plugs incorporate strengthening ribs as part of the top and bottom plate design to provide rigidity in use. All plugs conform to British Standards BS 8005 for low pressure testing and sealing of pipes.
Technical Data and Specification
Leak tightness
The hollow shaft plugs (1.5 to 6″) have an “0” ring seal around the stem to ensure leak tightness.
Temperature
The Argweld® nylon Weld Purge Plugs™ can be used up to 75ºC (167ºF)continuously and 105ºC (221ºF) intermittently. With special high temperature seals they can be used continuously up to 120ºC (248ºF).
Increasing use of internal inert gas purging for the process industries and where hygienic stainless steel pipework has called for additional dams which help operators achieve an air tight seal.
The Argweld® Weld Purge Plugs™ offer a useful alternative for small bore pipework.
Argweld® Weld Purge Plugs™ can be delivered with a solid stem for pressure / leak testing or with a hollow shaft for weld purging:
